Thanks to the efforts of engineering teachers Bill Patrick (Mt. Spokane) and Andy Arnold (Mead) the Mead School District received a $3,300 grant from the Washington State Foundation for Structural Engineers to hold a Popsicle Bridge Building Contest on February 7, 2015, 9 a.m. at Mt. This annual benefit basketball game has the Mead High School/Northwood staff taking on the Mt. Spokane/Mountainside staff on Wednesday, February 4th - 7:30 p.m. at Mt. Spokane High School. Admission: $5 donation. During the past ten years this event has raised over $45,000 to help flight cancer.

Congratulations to two teams of Junior Humanities students from Mead High School. They recently placed 1st and 2nd in the 3rd Annual STCU Hundred Dollar Project. The first place team won $2,500 and the second place team received $1,500. Read more . . .

Three Mead High School orchestra students - Thomas Baldwin, Ella Wilkinson and Sara Miller (pictured left to right with orchestra teacher Dorothy Baldwin) - by audition, were selected as members of the All-State Orchestra. Other Mead School District singers and musicians earning All-State selection include: Audrey Wagner (Mt.S) Symphonic Choir and Bryson Roberts - tuba (Mead HS) and John Petrovich - trumpet (Mt.S) Band.

Colbert 6th grader Jordan Kuhnkey was the winner of the regional Spokane Recycles Poster Contest. Primary judging considerations included use of the theme "Recycling - Bigger...Blue-er...Better", originality and artistic ability. Read more . . .

During the month of December 2014, choir students from Mead High School, Prairie View, Colbert, Midway, Evergreen, Meadow Ridge and Shiloh Hills traveled to local retirement and assisted living facilities performing selections from their holiday music programs. Read more . . .

To celebrate the 200th anniversary of the penning of "The Star-Spangled Banner" by Francis Scott Key all 540 Shiloh Hills students donned red, white and blue rain ponchos on the afternoon of October 24, 2014, and created a replica of the flag that flew over Fort McHenry in September of 1814.
